What you get

Real parts, laid out the way a breadboard build is laid out. It borrows the look of a 4-bit computer, but it isn't wired as a working circuit, so it's purely something to look at.

Why $240: about five hours of my hands-on time per frame, plus the boards, chips, wire, frame and a double-wall box, with shipping included. For comparison, the Working Edition is expected to be about $400 to $500.

In the box: the framed piece, wrapped in foam with corner protectors inside a double-wall box, and a printed thank-you card.

Frame12 x 12 in black shadow box, glass front
Outside size and weight12.75 x 12.75 in, about 2 in deep, about 2 lb
Hanging2 D-rings on the back (hang it from the D-rings, not a wire)
Boards3 full-size 830-point breadboards
Chips8 real 74-series logic chips (SN74LS08N, SN74LS74AN)
Also on itTactile buttons, clear 3 mm LEDs, resistors and capacitors
WiresAround 90 hand-cut, hand-bent 22 AWG solid wires in red, blue, green and white
Build timeAbout five hours per frame
PowerNone. Display only.

Heads up: this one is display-only

It has no power input, the LEDs don't light up, and it doesn't compute. It's real parts laid out the way a breadboard build looks, made to hang on a wall. If you want one that computes, that's the Working Edition (designed, not built yet), or you can build that same computer yourself with the Build Kit (planned).

Questions

Is it a working computer?

No, and some of my own early posts called it one, which was wrong. The Display Edition has no power input, the LEDs never light, and it doesn't compute. It's laid out like a real breadboard build so it looks the part. The one that computes is the Working Edition, which isn't built yet.

Can I power it or plug it into something?

No, it isn't wired to be powered. Please don't connect power to it, and treat it like art rather than a dev board.

How big is it?

12.75 x 12.75 in outside (a 12 x 12 in opening), about 2 in deep, and about 2 lb. It hangs from 2 D-rings on the back.

How long until it arrives?

Ships within 3 to 5 days, by USPS, and I send the tracking number the day it ships. US addresses only for now.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email me a couple of photos of the box and the frame at logicframeco@gmail.com and I'll replace it if I have one built, otherwise I'll refund you.

Can I return it?

Yes, within 30 days. If it arrived damaged or not as described I cover the return, and if you changed your mind you cover return shipping.

What if it's going to be late?

If I can't ship by the date I gave you, I'll email you first and you can cancel for a full refund.

Is the checkout safe?

Checkout happens on my Etsy shop, so your card details go to Etsy and never touch this site, and the order is covered by Etsy Purchase Protection.

Do you take custom requests?

Sometimes, depending on time and exams. Email me what you have in mind.

Want the one that computes, or a kit?

I designed a real 4-bit computer that can hang on a wall, and the build starts after finals, around January. Follow along to see it get built and to see when the Working Edition and the build kit open.

Build updates go up on Instagram (@logic_frame_co), and that's where I'll announce when the Working Edition or the kit opens.
